Silver Lining, a short film on autism, was screened at Ventures Koral Reef, Ikoyi (Lagos) on Sunday, May 27. Autism is a neural developmental disorder characterized by impaired social interaction, and communication. The film stars Monalisa Chinda, Whoba Ogo, and Obiora Olife.
The well attended event kicked off with a red carpet session, which was graced by Nollywood stars, such as Desmond Elliot, Ini Edo, Omoni Oboli, Susan Peters, and Emem Isong.
Guests at the screening were impressed by Monalisa Chinda’s interpretation of an emotionally frustrated mother in the heartrending film. Speaking on the film, the actress said:
“The film seeks to hearten parents with special children while educating the society at large about the autism spectrum. It’s a cause that is very close to my heart, and I plan to do more of such projects,”
Expressing her gratitude at the end of the event, Mrs. Dotun Akande, Executive Producer of Silver Lining and Founder of Patrick Speech & Languages Centre said she was very grateful for the support showered on her by everyone in the industry. According to her, autism is not a death sentence, and with early diagnosis, intervention and therapy, a child can recover without a trace.
